You’ve probably heard that in March 2022, the expedition ship Endurance was rediscovered at a depth of more than 3000 metres, more than 100 years after it sank. The whisky pictured was reissued in honour of polar explorer Ernest Shakleton by Master Blender Richard Paterson. On the previous expedition, Nimrod, in 1907, the crew had to leave some of the Mackinlay’s Rare Old from the Glen Mhor distillery (no longer in operation) in the Cape Royd shelter. But they were swallowed by the pack ice and it was not until 2007 that they were recovered. Eleven bottles were recovered in good condition and were faithfully recreated in taste by the aforementioned master blender. In honour of this historical development, one can drink a dram on it, which tastes of vanilla, cinnamon, sweet, dried fruit, pineapple, mulled wine and a little chocolate. It has the light peat smoke in the background that was typical at the time. 😋 Slàinte mhath! 🥃
